Last Thursday Pacific San Diego Magazine hosted at Katsuya by Starck in Downtown San Diego an evening of hosted Grey Goose cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, multimedia art displays from San Diego artists, a silent auction, and more! Proceeds benefited A Reason To Survive – an arts organization I’m a huge fan of!
This month I’m curating a museum-going wardrobe to various San Diego museums and openings inspired by their collections. The pulls are majorly from the new 2013 Zara Spring Look book and this week I’m featuring art by Inocente Izucar, whose life story won the 2013 Academy Award for Best Documentary Short Subject. “At 15, Inocente refuses to let her dream of becoming an artist be caged by her life as an undocumented immigrant forced to live homeless for the last nine years. Color is her personal revolution and its extraordinary sweep on her canvases creates a world that looks nothing like her own dark past…”
For the occasion I wore a pair of Sam Edelman black pumps with rhinestones and spikes along the back (similar here – Sam Edelman Black Lorissa Women’s Spiked Peep Toe Shoe and cheaper finds via ebay here). Along with a pair of black cropped bebe pants — a great height requiring no tailoring for a tanchi yet still versatile for day or night wear. (Similar: Icon Cuffed Crop Jean and Molly Pintuck Crop Pant). I topped it off with a Forever 21 rose pink blouse with gold buttons on the back, (great for panza coverage) and a black and gold statement necklace from BP Nordstroms (such a go-to necklace). Similar find here at Forever 21.
This spring my favorite color pair is yellow with cobalt blue – complementary colors! Izucar’s artwork is rich in color and there were great paintings showcasing color blending and texture manipulation – such striking rich hues! I decided to pull blues and yellow from the Zara look book. Here are some of the great finds:
Love art and mixed with free sushi and cocktails in San Diego – make for a great event and fun times! Can’t wait for Pacific SD’s next event and more art produced by students at A Reason To Survive!
